Technological innovation is at the forefront of the street smart all-new Hino 500 Series Standard Cab including a high definition capacitive touch 6.5” screen on the smart Multimedia unit.

“At the core of the advancements are the smart Multimedia unit and the all-new LCD Multi Information Display (MID) on the dash, which provides drivers with a level of detail and connectivity never before seen in the Japanese-built medium duty segment,” said Daniel Petrovski, Hino Australia’s Manager of Product Strategy.

A high definition capacitive touch 6.5” screen on the new smart Multimedia unit replaces the outgoing 6.1” screen and implements over-the-air updates to enhance software and include new features as they become available.

“These updates are just one of the many advantages of the Wi-Fi connectivity of the new smart Multimedia unit.

“The smart Multimedia unit will also feature a curated Hino application store, which is unique to this type of vehicle in the Australian medium duty truck market.

“Drivers can personalise their drive experience further, by selecting ‘’apps’’ for music, audiobooks and weather,” continued Mr Petrovski.

Driver Information

With this new model, the driver has easier access to more information than any Hino before it, courtesy of the 7” LCD Multi Information Display (MID) located in the middle of the instrumentation.

The high resolution MID allows the driver to view a wide range of operational information relating to safety performance, driving economy, vehicle performance, maintenance and vehicle system settings.

Adding further to the new model’s technological credentials is an on-board driver information system called ‘ECO Tree’ which collates a variety of operational driving data and shows it on the Multi Information Display screen.

The ECO Tree system evaluates drivers operation of the vehicle, the background colour of the multi-information dash display changes from blue to green to provide continuous feedback on the driver’s efficiency including warnings for excessive acceleration and engine over-revving.

Steering wheel controls for MID and Adaptive Cruise Control allow the driver to keep their eyes on the road while operating the devices, further improving safety levels.

“Additionally, the driver is warned of some critical pieces of information such as low brake pressure via a clear voice message, in addition to a warning light and buzzer.

Accessories

In addition to the high levels of technology supplied standard with every new truck, the new 500 Series Standard Cab has an innovative range of Hino Genuine accessories.

The Multimedia unit is available with truck-specific satellite navigation which includes 3 years of free map updates.

The 500 Series Standard Cab is the first truck in Australia with the capability of quarterly over the air map updates courtesy of maps that are updated via WiFi.

Similarly, in another Australian first, real time traffic information is integrated into the satellite navigation system, which optimises traffic routing options.

A Digital Video Recorder (DVR) is available to record video footage of the road and driver and can be viewed via the smart Multimedia unit.

Every 500 Series Standard Cab comes supplied with a reverse camera, three additional cameras can also be specified and a lane change assist function can enhance driver awareness by focussing on the side of the vehicle and displaying the image on the smart multimedia when an indicator is applied prior to lane change.

All of these systems are compatible and designed to integrate with the high quality smart Multimedia screen, further enhancing the safety levels of the all-new 500 Series Standard Cab.

Another street smart feature that is available is the wireless mobile phone charging mat, which is located within the dash.

Tyre Pressure monitoring provisions inform the driver of any tyre pressure irregularities to assist in optimising tyre pressures and improve the fuel efficiency, extend tyre life and improve safety.

Like all Hino vehicles, the 500 Series Standard Cab will offer Hino Telematics.

First launched in 2016, Hino Telematics provides real-time vehicle tracking and vehicle operational information to drivers and fleet owners through an online portal.

The Hino Telematics system also offers real-time reporting on driver and vehicle performance, fuel usage, driver safety and whole-of-fleet performance monitoring.
